What is Reiki
Reiki is a holistic healing practice that originated in Japan. The word "Reiki" is composed of two Japanese words: "rei," which means universal or spiritual, and "ki," which refers to the life force energy that flows through all living things. Reiki practitioners believe that this life force energy can be channeled and used for healing and balancing the body, mind, and spirit.
Reiki was founded by a Japanese Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui, not Dr. Ukasi. Mikao Usui is credited with rediscovering the ancient healing technique in the late 19th century. According to the traditional story, Usui was on a spiritual quest to find a method of healing that could be accessible to anyone. After years of study and meditation, he experienced a spiritual awakening on Mount Kurama in Japan, where he received the Reiki symbols and the ability to heal.
Following his experience, Mikao Usui began teaching and practicing Reiki in Japan. He established a system of teachings and initiated several students into Reiki, passing down the knowledge and attunements necessary to become Reiki practitioners. One of his students, Chujiro Hayashi, further developed the system and introduced hand positions for healing. One of Hayashi's students, Hawayo Takata, brought Reiki to the West, specifically to the United States, in the late 1930s.
Since then, Reiki has gained popularity worldwide as a complementary therapy used to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support overall well-being. It is often practiced through light touch or by placing hands slightly above the body in specific positions to channel the energy.
Reiki is not associated with any specific religion and is considered a non-invasive and gentle form of healing.
